Makeup Products for Beginners (Malaysia)

itshannahomg

Have you just started getting into makeup but don't know which products are good and affordable?

Don't worry, I'm here to help you :D

A little background about my makeup journey~

I started learning makeup when I was 15 at Bobbi Brown (they offer free makeup classes) and I often practice and buy Korean products and drugstore products because they were really good and affordable.

Read till the end for some makeup tips!

1) Face:

Foundation

I usually don't wear foundation unless I'm about to attend an event.

I find that Maybelline products are extremely affordable but also worth their price.

It doesn't come off after the whole night of wearing it. However, if there is something that I don't like about it, it would be its thickness.

It is very thick so it has good coverage, but I often felt that my skin can't breathe. Which is the reason why I don't wear foundation very often.

BB cream/cushion

I know that Laneige isn't considered affordable, but since you're going to put it on your face, I suggest investing in good quality face products.

Laneige has been my favourite brand for six years, because it has my shade, and it is very moisturizing and durable.

I prefer to use BB cream/BB cushion because it has SPF, and it is very convenient for me to put on.

Concealer

I always use Innisfree products because it is environmentally friendly, affordable, and it smells nice!

This is great for covering dark eye circles, but if you wanna save money, you can also use it as a highlighter by buying a shade lighter than your skin colour. I do that all the time!

The applicator is small, so it makes it easy to apply on your undereye areas and cupids bow.

I'm pretty sure everyone has heard about how awesome the Age Rewind concealer is from Maybelline, and I personally think that it is worth the rave as well!

The coverage is heavy. Hence, you can use it for concealing your blemishes, dark circles, and even bad decisions :p

However, it can be a bit dry when you apply it. So you have to twist it and warm it up on your hands before applying it.

Despite the fact that I like it, but my best friend doesn't like it because it will oxidise after awhile, making you look yellow.

2) Eyes

Mascara

The effects of using these mascaras are insane!

As someone who is obsessed with mascaras, I highly recommend using mascaras from Maybelline (any one of it works well!)

My personal favorites are the Colossal and Falsies Push Up Drama in red.

I use two mascaras every time. Firstly, I'll use the Falsies Push Up which makes my eyelashes look like eyelash extensions. Then, I will use the Colossal one for extra push up.

A lot of mascaras are huge and they can make a mess around your eyes. Especially when you're applying it on your lower lashes.

So, if you're trying to avoid the mess. I recommend trying the Skinny Mascara from Innisfree.

It is super simple and it will reduce the amount of mess around your eye area.

Eyeliner

If you want to see the difference between pencil liner and liquid liner, I'd definitely recommend purchasing this.

This is the Superstar Duo Designer eyeliner. It is very pigmented, so it is very black.

What I like about it, is that it is waterproof, and it doesn't smudge easily!

So if you're worried about water and smudging. Try using this!

Another Innisfree Product!

They always say that pencil eyeliner is suitable for beginners. But if you're broke, try Innisfree products.

It is very easy to control, but you mustn't put too much pressure on it or make it too tall when using it. Or else it will break.

However, the pigmentation is very strong and the texture is smooth like jelly!

Gel liner this time! From, Innisfree as well :p

I love the pigmentation and texture, but there's no way to push out the product. Hence, making it very little.

Lips

Lipstick

Maybelline's lipstick is worth the rave. Especially if you're going for a matte look.

They are very moisturized, unlike other matte lipsticks, so your lips won't crack after the whole day of using them.

Honestly, there is nothing that I dislike about their lipsticks. However, if you're going for a full matte look, you might want to stay away from them. Because as I've mentioned before, they are moisturized. So some watery glow may appear on your lips after applying them.

On the other hand, to save money, I always use my lipsticks as blush!

Using them as blush is SUPER recommended because of it's moisture, so you can apply it and spread it out easily with your fingers!

My friend uses it as eyeshadow as well!

Lip Tint

If you're going for a Korean gradient lip look. I highly recommend using a lip tint. Etude House is famous for their lip tint, and they always have a Buy 1 Free 1 promotion. As a Malaysian, how could I miss it, right?

Their lip tints are very moisturizing and easy to apply. Not only that, they smell absolutely fruity as well!

Makeup tips:

  1. Mix your moisturizer/sunscreen with your foundation to give it a dewy and moisturized look

  2. Use lipstick or any lip product as blush or eye shadow

  3. You can use eyeliners to draw fake lashes/freckles

  4. Apply Vaseline on your eyebrows or lashes to grow them
