A psychological horror film on Netlfix- "Ma" featured Octavia Spencer as Sue Ann, also known as Ma, Diana Silvers as Maggie, and Corey Fogelmanis as Andrew Hawkins. The story is about how Sue Ann helped a bunch of teenagers to buy alcohol which turns into an obsession and tries to seek revenge on her ex-classmates.
The history of Sue Ann's ill friendship with her classmates started in high school when she had a crush on Ben Hawkins (Luke Evans) but was devastated when he and other classmates teamed up to bully her. 15 years later, she came across her peer's children Maggie, Andrew and others when they asked her to help them purchase some alcohol. Little did they know that she would start obsessing over them.
I like how the atmosphere was created in the film. It started off as harmless and innocent to anguish and vengeful. It all started off as Sue Ann caring for the kids by helping them buy alcohol and worrying bout Andy (Andrew's) ability to drive. However, when they started to be too busy for her, she started harassing them by spamming them and taking advantage of their empathy to even killing them.
In the end, she dies with Ben, her high school crush and bully. Taking reference from Q.V. Hough (2019), she chose to die with him because she could not have him in the beginning, but at least she can stop him from hurting her. Ben could not give her love when they were younger, nor did he give her respect as an adult. Therefore, dying with him in the fire is a sign that her anger ends here.
If there is one thing that I learned from this movie, it would be to never be a bully. Words can hurt, and one's actions can affect someone else for a lifetime. Also, I think that forgiveness is highly crucial from this movie. We may not be able to change the past, but we can choose to move on and forgive the ones who wronged us, as holding a grudge wont do us any good.
